PostSubject: EPC light   Mon May 17 2010, 18:04

Hi guy's,

Girlfriends mk4 golf 1.4e is playing up. Initially the EPC light came on but the car ran fine.
Left it on the street for a week as I had no time to mess about( with the overtime at work ).
It now won't start at all so I can't even take it to a garage, jump leads don't have any effect either. I've read that the EPC can be triggered by a faulty brake light switch above the pedal but the brake lights work fine. Could it be a battery charging fault? Alternator? Engine earth?

Any help would be appreciated
confused

Ah, EPC - electronic pedal control

Most people point to the brake light switch with this issue, however you are saying that they work fine. Does the light come and stay on when you turn the key but no starter or it just won't start?
Might be worth checking that there is not a loose wire or faulty brake light switch still.
Where are you based as the other option is that we clear the code but that will not fix the problem but could give us a clue?
Several of us have the ability to do this.

In the manual it says electronic power control?
Yes the light stays on after all the others have gone out. It started before with no problems when the light was on, I'm hoping it's just one thing and not multiple problems.

I'm based in Houghton Regis (Dunstable)
I'll try giving the wires to the brake light switch a wiggle and see what happens to the light.
Would the switch cause the car not to start though?

Thanks for your quick reply

Funny, it would seem in Golf circles it is said to be electronic pedal control but on Polo circles they seem to call it Power. Still sounds like the same thing, drive by wire.
